The Compression Barrier is well-suited for oval tracks and utilizes thick-walled resilient elastomer cylinders between a guardrail and the concrete wall. This provides nearly three feet of crush zone to cushion impacts. A redirecting feature routes the race car parallel with the flow of traffic. Where space is limited by grandstands, the pits or other spectator/participant areas, this compact system is proposed. The Compression Barrier is self-restoring by virtue of the memory in its elastomer tubes which automatically return to their circular shape ready for immediate reuse. |

This pair of illustrations show the Compression Barrier protecting the pit area. As the car skids into the wall, the crush zone absorbs energy of the impact and then redirects the car back into the flow of traffic. |
